Here are four simple things you can do now to help keep pets with their families (and out of the shelter) and reduce the risk to staff and other animals when sheltering pets from COVID-19-exposed environments.
- Provide messaging to your community on how to incorporate pets into their preparedness plans, including identifying alternate caregivers
- Divide your animal-care staff into two teams to minimize contact with with each other and with COVID-exposed animals.
- Develop SOPs for when/if you take in animals who may have been exposed to the virus
- Take inventory of your PPE and cleaning products
Read all our suggestions on adapting your shelter protocols, including suggested intake and housing and care of companion animals who may have been exposed to people with COVID-19.
Thank you for your tireless efforts to support your community during this incredibly trying time. We are here to support you in whatever way we can.
